Microbiology Testing

We have a dedicated Grade D cleanroom to perform our sterility testing, which houses 3 isolators that use gassed isolator technology (hydrogen peroxide vapour). We can perform both Membrane Filtration and Direct Inoculation, working to the requirements of the European Pharmacopeia.

Our set up for Endotoxin allows us to carry out the turbidimetric kinetic method, meeting the requirements of method C of the European Pharmacopeia, chapter 2.6.14.

We have a non-sterile microbiological testing laboratory that houses a dedicated biological safety cabinet to perform all of our MLT testing inside. We test a range of products for our clients including oral solutions, topicals, medical device testing and more adhering to British, European and US Pharmacopeia’s.

We have a dedicated ‘live culture’ laboratory where we carry out GPT testing for our clients on products such as ‘in-house’ media and consumables, testing against the compendial organisms suited for that media’s use. We can provide testing on a range of media both solid and liquid and can also perform media fill testing where required.

We have the capability to perform identification to species level on unknown organisms our clients need processing. These can be on things such as environmental monitoring plates or broths that may be turbid after incubation.

Moreover, our MALDI-TOF equipment can perform Microbial Identification testing with the capacity of up to 95 samples per plate with the ability to run multiple sessions per day. This is especially beneficial for a range of pharmaceutical companies as well as medical device manufacturers seeking to comply with the updates to EudraLex Annex 1 in 2023.

We can provide a full service for incubation and reading of environmental monitoring plates for our clients that do not have capability in-house.

Using either our dedicated Biological Safety Cabinet or Laminar Air Flow Unit inside our non-sterile testing laboratory, we can offer a wide range of water testing including purified, potable and coliform testing.

Testing to European and US Pharmacopeia’s, we can offer GMP testing on a range of products, such as:

• Pharmaceuticals
• Liquid oral preparations (for example, syrups, suspensions, topical creams, lotions, and ointments, injectable products, and nasal sprays)
• Personal care products
• Household products

Additionally, our sister Tentamus UKAS-accredited laboratories SMS (Somerset) and BluTest Laboratories (Glasgow) specialise in Preservative Efficacy Testing for personal care and cosmetics products as well as household products.

Also known as Antimicrobial Effectiveness Testing (AET), we perform testing on a range of pharmaceutical products for our clients.
